The European project BIO4RES had a prominent presence at the Navarra Climate Week, with a packed agenda of activities focused on sustainable forest management, rural bioeconomy, and transnational cooperation. Representing the technical assistance team for project management and coordination, Maider Go\u00f1i and Sonia Olza, from INICIATIVAS INNOVADORAS, actively participated in the event organized by NASUVINSA, the lead partner of BIO4RES, which brought together around 70 participants, including partner entities from France and Portugal, key territorial stakeholders, and forestry professionals.<\/div>\n

Forest biomass and fire prevention<\/strong><\/h3>\n
The first session, titled \u201cForest biomass and fire prevention: an opportunity for rural resilience,\u201d highlighted four innovative pilots developed within the project:<\/div>\n

  • Biodiversity conservation in forest harvesting (France)<\/li>\n
  • Forestry machinery: technology serving the forestry sector (Catalonia)<\/li>\n
  • Holistic management of forest resources \u2013 Bai\u00e3o example (Portugal)<\/li>\n
  • Training for sustainability and safety in forest harvesting (Navarra)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    These experiences demonstrate the potential of forest biomass as a tool for sustainable development and rural resilience.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    From biomass to territory<\/strong><\/h3>\n
    The second session, \u201cFrom territory to industry: the path of biomass,\u201d served as a space for reflection on how to enhance the value of biomass and integrate it into local and industrial value chains, strengthening the connection between territory, innovation, and circular economy. During this session, a roundtable discussion on bioeconomy and sustainable forest management was held. The Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), a partner entity of the BIO4RES consortium, shared its experience and knowledge alongside local actors, forestry sector representatives, administrations, and companies, addressing challenges and solutions to promote more sustainable and circular models in the territory.<\/div>\n
    The day concluded with a field visit to Monte Limitaciones (Am\u00e9scoas), where participants learned firsthand about the historical evolution, traditional uses, and climate change impacts in this bioclimatic transition zone, in connection with the LIFE Global project.<\/div>\n

    Consortium meeting in the Yerri Valley<\/strong><\/h3>\n
    On October 21, the BIO4RES consortium meeting took place in Arizala (Yerri Valley), where the technical assistance team supported partner entities in reviewing progress, adjusting timelines, and defining work priorities for the final year of implementation. The day ended with a field visit to the Zunbeltz estate, linked to Pilot 4, led by NASUVINSA and focused on training personnel for biomass extraction in rural areas.<\/div>\n
    Through these activities, BIO4RES reinforces its commitment to forest sustainability, rural innovation, and transnational cooperation among European regions.<\/div>\n
