The European project RESINSURF, part of the Interreg Sudoe program, held a consortium meeting on October 15 and 16 at the University of Aveiro (UAVR), which hosted the event. The meeting combined collaborative work, exchange of scientific progress, and an enriching visit to the facilities and laboratories of the Portuguese institution.
During the visit, researchers Alexandre Bastos and João Tedim guided the consortium through the tests and pilot projects that UAVR is developing within the framework of the project. This allowed participants to witness firsthand the high level of innovation and commitment of the team to RESINSURF’s objectives.
Participants praised the organization and hospitality of the University of Aveiro, as well as the opportunity to strengthen cooperation among the various partners. The meeting concluded in an atmosphere of optimism and motivation to continue advancing the project and its sustainable applications.
INICIATIVAS INNOVADORAS supports the financial and administrative management of the project.

About the project
RESINSURF aims to replace toxic surface treatments with safer and smarter ecological alternatives. The project offers workshops and training to educate professionals and students in the SUDOE region, helping companies comply with European Union regulations.
Hexavalent chromium is a highly useful chemical in various industries, but it is also very dangerous for health and the environment. It is commonly used to coat metals, make paints, and treat leather, but it can cause cancer and pollute water and soil. For this reason, the European Union banned it in 2017, although it allowed limited use until 2024. This has created a challenge for companies that rely on it, as they must quickly find safe alternatives.
